GSC audit: reading your own Search Console (15,668 impressions)

Most site owners never open Search Console, or open it and see noise. This GSC audit of our own data shows what 15,668 impressions actually told us — and the single bottleneck we found.

Our best-performing page by demand — /best-standing-desk-for-home-office/ — collected 2,001 impressions at position 14.4 and converted only 17 clicks. That single line is the bottleneck: we are visible, but we are not chosen.

The one metric that matters

It is not traffic. It is not even ranking. It is CTR: 0.27%. Ranking is the ticket to the game; CTR is the score. Our impressions prove Google is willing to show us — the titles, snippets and page-2 positions are not converting that willingness into visits.

Why this matters for budgeting: improving CTR compounds for free. Every impression you already earn becomes more valuable, and you don’t pay more for it. It is the highest-ROI work in SEO and the least done.

What we do with it

  • Separate demand (impressions) from capture (clicks), page by page.
  • Rank the leaks by lost-click opportunity — impressions × realistic CTR gain — not by warning count.
  • Fix titles, snippets, schema and internal links in priority order, then re-measure.

How to run a GSC audit in five steps

  1. Connect Search Console (read-only) — we never change your site.
  2. Pull the last 90 days: impressions, clicks, CTR and position per page and per query.
  3. Rank every page by lost-click opportunity, not by an arbitrary score.
  4. Act on the worst five pages first — titles, snippets, schema, internal links.
  5. Re-measure monthly and repeat. SEO is a loop, not a project.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as your paid audit?

This is a public walkthrough of our own data. The Revenue-Leak Audit does the same on your own property and returns a ranked, page-by-page fix list.

Why publish your weak numbers?

Because anyone can claim results. Showing our real CTR — and fixing it in public — is the honest version of a case study.

How do I get my own numbers?

Connect Search Console (read-only) in the GSA audit app and run the free preview, then unlock the full report.

What is a good CTR?

There is no single number — it depends on position and query intent. We benchmark each page against what its position should earn and flag the gap.

Do I need to give you access to my site?

No. Read-only Search Console access is enough for the audit. We only touch the site if you engage us to implement the fixes.

Want this on your site?

Start with a free website audit or a $99 Local Leak Audit, then we fix the leaks in priority order — the same method shown here.
